Chad took the time to speak with him and was able to establish enough of a rapport and within minutes convinced him to come and sit in the room.
We had an 83-year-old male patient with schizophrenia who was being admitted to behavioral health on a 302 and could not understand anything about the situation. After the 302 was signed he attempted to leave the hospital and would not allow us to bring him back into a room or draw blood/test for covid because he believed we were also trying to poison him. He became increasingly frightened as he realized he was not free to leave. Multiple team members and police were also unable to peacefully bring him into a room to allow for his treatment. The patient was not Chad's responsibility, but he took the time to speak with him and was able to establish enough of a rapport and within minutes convinced him to come and sit in the room. The patient trusted Chad enough to allow him to draw his blood work and administer his medication as well that only minutes ago he was convinced was poison. Chad truly went above and beyond his duties to help this patient.
