Chelsea was able to get a mobile smart television with an app installed for the internet. Everything seemed to work correctly, as the patient's friends came to his bedside to attend virtually with him.
The story I'm about to share is really just another day at work for Chelsea. To her team, and to me, she goes above and beyond every single shift, for all the patients in the MIMCU, not just her assignment.
Recently, Chelsea was assigned to a rather complex patient who required total care, as his medical situation took away his ability to move, breathe, and even talk on his own. During an ordinary day caring for this patient, Chelsea learned a little something extra about the patient. He and his many friends were planning to attend a Grateful Dead tribute band concert together. Unfortunately, due to his lengthened hospital stay and the need for a procedure, he would not be able to attend. The patient planned to stream the concert on a small iPad at his bedside. While options were limited, Chelsea connected with me about her plan. She brought in a small projector, which could be attached to a cell phone or iPad, and projected the concert on the wall in his room. We came to find the projector would not work. Talking through how important this was to the patient, with the help of the internal patient experience department, Chelsea was able to get a mobile smart television with an app installed for the internet. Everything seemed to work correctly, as the patient's friends came to his bedside to attend virtually with him. That evening, the patient and his friends were able to enjoy the concert together. The reason I share this story is not for how happy the patient and his friends were, but genuinely, Chelsea was the happiest of them all.
Over Chelsea's career in MIMCU, she has done extraordinary things for her patients on just another ordinary work day. Whether it be getting a patient a balloon and slice of cake because it's her patient's birthday, orchestrating a reveal party for a dying patient's first grandchild about to be born, pulling together a patient's wedding at bedside for a terminal woman, or just wheeling a patient out of their room to look at the window on the south addition, Chelsea goes above and beyond for her patient. She is a true shining light for any person she comes in contact with. I am so proud of Chelsea, and she is truly a DAISY Nurse.
