I was admitted to the ICU and diagnosed with COVID-19. The staff in the ICU were nice and considerate but it wasn't until I was transferred to the Oncology unit that was turned into a COVID-19 step down that I received the care, compassion, and commitment that every patient deserves. A young lady that calls herself Cherry was coming on the night shift. She explained that she usually works on a cardiac floor but was pulled to help out on this floor tonight. She was a Godsend to me.
Since my admission, I was so used to people looking at me with fear in their eyes. But her eyes always had a smile. She took exceptional care of me all the way through to the end of the shift. She even made sure I received my breakfast in a timely manner. Her nursing skills and compassion should be an example to all of your nurses at this facility. I am a nurse instructor. I have always taught my students to care for everyone equally. She demonstrated what nurses took an oath to do. I am so grateful that I met her. Thank you, Cherry!
