Cheryl was able to facilitate communication between the provider, behavioral specialists, and the patient.
Cheryl has many years of experience as a nurse and leader on 4 Main. She used this experience to keep a patient calm during a difficult time. The patient was admitted to our unit, and during the course of her stay with us, she made a few comments regarding self-harm to Cheryl and another nurse. The provider was notified and requested a behavioral consult. While waiting for the behavioral specialist to speak to the patient, the patient became very upset and wanted to leave. Cheryl, being in charge, had multiple interactions with this patient. During these interactions, the patient became increasingly agitated. Cheryl was able to remain calm and de-escalate the situation. Cheryl was able to facilitate communication between the provider, behavioral specialists, and the patient. Her ability to empathize with the patient, while showing compassion, helped the patient to better understand the situation and keep her safe until she was able to be discharged. Cheryl’s ability to take charge of the situation kept the staff and patient safe from harm. These actions are typical of Cheryl’s compassion. Great job, Cheryl!
