But because of Chris's positive and encouraging attitude and not asking any questions, they have decided that this is the year they will start celebrating!
When completing patient rounds this morning, I spoke with a patient who had all praises for Chris. She stated Chris exemplified our values of Dignity, Excellence, Justice, Integrity, and Compassion. She went on to tell me she and her husband have been struggling with the Easter Holiday season approaching. She stated Chris came in and asked if they had any plans for Easter. She and her husband told him no they had no plans. The patient told me Chris was not pushy but just went on to tell her how important Easter was to him and his family and what his plans were for the holiday. She stated he continued to be so positive and encouraging it was unbelievable.
When Chris left the room she said she and her husband spoke and because of Chris's kind words and words of encouragement they decided this is the year they will celebrate. The patient went on to discuss the reason she and her husband did not celebrate the Easter Holiday. The patient stated their 18-year-old son was killed on Easter Sunday 6 years ago. She said they have not celebrated Easter since that time and always were very anxious and upset during this time. But because of Chris's positive and encouraging attitude and not asking any questions, they have decided that this is the year they will start celebrating! Not only Easter but the life of their son. The patient stated Chris had no idea of their struggle when speaking with them and so it was that much more authentic. He just was sharing his heart and his love with them. She told me what a blessing Chris has been and because of him, their life has changed. He reminded them of the promise and hope they have again!
