This is a long overdue must do list for me to nominate Christina McAnn for this deserving recognition. With full confidence we can conclude her practice is one among those excellent performers in nursing field. She stands out for so many reasons; With 2 yrs of experience from Yale New Haven Hospital last 2008 Christina came to ADV IMMC with high expectations & belief that our institution will be able to give her the same equal experience. To date she is not disappointed to join her sister in Chicago in ADV IMMC, she came to the right hospital.
Christina is presently in a program to finish her NP tract. In her daily activities Christina is consistent to finish her work in a timely manner, she makes sure that any unfinished patient issues or concerns, a continuity of care is in place, and that desired result takes place, Besides asking and reporting to her peers for follow up, Either through voice mail or email Christina would see to it that I am updated of the unit issues. I will always have a note from her related to updates of any special or critical issues about the unit or her patient. Her professionalism, accountability, intelligence and expectations on behavior for excellence is tops. Her performance in clinical practice exemplifies the mission value and philosophy of Adv IMMC. To recall an event, during our great huge paralyzing snow storm , Knowing how the unit and her team were needing help, Christina was one among those who braved to walk on that heavy thick snow stayed over a second shift then went home that night, (don't know if security accompanied her home). And to top it all she came back again the next day even if the snow was much too high for her to walk.
FYI SHE was laughing, when she shared her experience that day, she was so hungry, went down while a free meal was served to staff, for odd reason a cafeteria staff rudely asked her to return an item. Though she felt insulted, she just smiled, return the item "I did not mind being told." To share it with me, I know she cannot brush the event off from her mind I apologized & notified Food & Nutrition lead team. The director apologized and gave her and another staff ticket for another free lunch.
Her interpersonal relationship among her peers and partners in delivery of patient care is well received. She demonstrates critical thinking skills are far beyond the norm. Example her concern on patient being discharge with minimal changed of parameters such as BP and O2 Sat. a minimal changed in lab value. Christina did not stop until she reached the attending and the consultant to hear her point of view. Patient stayed for work up to r/o PE patient was started on Hep drip. On the recent month again Christina concerns about a patient worsening blistering hands spreading darkened red to purple skin around the blister and seem spreading and some spot on patient legs. She was so alarmed requested some assistance to confirmation about her doubts, Patient did not have idea how it started but just noticed the blisters growing. With little advised and assistance she did not stopped until the attending physician who is under a special service agreed to have a consult a dermatology, furthermore not contended that the UC just left message to the service. When she knew the consulted dermatologist was not readily available, she made sure a service can give this patient a priority. She then called the service herself and made effort to convince the consultant to see her patient. It even came to the point that a service may have been annoyed for Christina's insistent. Apologetic and appropriate diplomacy notice from Christina, for reason of unavailability and need for immediate attention the 1st consulted Derma sx agreed to pull out. She was able to request the AP to allow her to look for a derma that can see the patient with in the frame time. Christina was able to find an available dermatologist to come to the hospital and see her patient. She conscientiously made effort to be in direct communication with her pt AP who was not within the hospital vicinity at that time; the patient was seen and assessed by a Derma sx that evening. She also pointed out a need for consultation of infectious SX. ID service came, ordered to isolate the case until patient is clear for to r/o working diagnosis of necrotizing fasciitis.
Furthermore, knowing that the patient don't have a resident physician, She also advocated for her patient need for a Medical service consultation then request for a resident be assigned and see her patient ASAP.. ALL that time Christina would go in and out explain to her alert very intelligent patient and update him of his management, She made effort to introduce, remind and alert responsibility of each new consultant, spec the need to loop and educate the patient in plan of care. She worked with medical sx and the resident from then on. Before the end of her shift the patient was eventually transferred to ICU for closer monitoringThe patient was thankful and verbalized a high respect of nursing service in this unit. The AP also made the same observation when he came to visit.
