Cindy has a positive attitude and is great at developing trust with staff and overcoming challenges staff are facing.
We, as nurses, can definitely agree that since the start of the pandemic staffing has had its fair share of challenges. During these challenging times, nursing leadership has become creative in recruitment, staffing safely, and promoting staff wellness.

This brings me to Cindy Bae who is one of the most compassionate and supportive Clinical Nurse Managers that I have worked with. Cindy has a positive attitude and is great at developing trust with staff and overcoming challenges staff are facing. Cindy Bae is approachable and empathetic with staff. Cindy lets staff know that she values them by being direct and transparent.

When staff tested positive for COVID-19, she took the time to reach out (even after hours) and followed up with them to ensure they were receiving the help they needed. Cindy guided them through the quarantine guidelines and ensured they were removed from the schedule.

Cindy assured staff that they needed to focus on their wellness before returning to work despite staff worrying about how their quarantine may be affecting staffing.

Despite knowing that quarantine affects staffing, Cindy actively recruited staff to add on and always praised their hard work through the weekly huddle. Cindy keeps the momentum going by keeping staff well-informed and updated on the needs of the unit.

As a way to ensure that staff is performing self-care during these challenging times, she helps facilitate staff attendance to the Spirit of Caring (RSC). There was so much positive feedback from the staff that others began inquiring about when they would be scheduled to attend RSC.

The staff know that they can always count on Cindy and she is not afraid to jump in and help with patient care. Patient care and staff safety are always a priority for Cindy.

I can recall the moment when a patient who was on portable oxygen missed his access ride and the patient was running low on oxygen in the discharge lounge. The patient panicked but Cindy stayed with the patient, requested another oxygen tank, and waited with the patient even after the discharge lounge closed. Cindy helped facilitated another ride for the patient and was able to provide the patient with enough oxygen to get the patient home. The patient literally returned the next day looking for Cindy just to thank her.

Cindy Bae definitely deserves recognition for her hard work in promoting a wellness environment, being an example to staff, and going the extra mile for our staff and for our patients. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner to help lead and be a role model for this unit.
