I was admitted having an intestinal virus that only presented in excruciating pain. During my thirty-six hours of such pain, nurse Colleen tended to my care in a manner worthy of recognition. It was obvious to me that she was in constant demand during her shifts, but she consistently afforded me professional expertise with compassion and confidence. I’ll never forget how, on Saturday night, she had to administer an NG tube for my care. I had never had such a procedure, and Nurse Colleen was deliberate in carefully preparing me ahead of its insertion so that I could know exactly what she was doing and what I was to do in cooperation with her. I followed the instructions and had no difficulty! Once the NG tube was inserted, I instantly felt the beginning of pain relief. If it hadn’t been for Nurse Colleen’s excellent care and guidance, I can’t imagine what would have happened. Thank you for employing such a competent, caring, and courageous nurse in Colleen. When she was on duty, I knew that everything that needed to be handled would be handled well. I nominate her for the DAISY Award with joy, gratitude, and without reservation.
