My family experienced a real-life nightmare when my aunt was found unresponsive in her West Chester home. She was rushed via ambulance to West Chester Hospital where she was revived and then transferred to Floor 2 - ICU.
On Saturday morning, a wonderful nurse named Corban was assigned to my aunt's care. As the hours went by, our family grew more and more concerned about her condition. Corban took the time to listen to our concerns and answered all of our questions with an empathetic attitude that cannot be feigned. If Corban did not know the answer to our question, he took the initiative to find it. I also witnessed Corban displaying the same amount of patience while training a new staff member.
After four days in the ICU, it was determined that my aunt had no chance of recovery and our family had to make the extremely difficult decision to discontinue life support. On Tuesday evening, Corban was again the nurse assigned to my aunt's care. Corban stayed several hours past his required shift to see my aunt through to the end of her journey and support our family throughout the entire process. Corban demonstrated the compassion and devotion of a nurse who is dedicated to patient-centered care and better outcomes. He truly is a great asset to UC Health West Chester whose "above and beyond" work ethic should be celebrated.
