Time and time again I see Crystal make the needs of the patient top priority in her daily role as a nurse. She is quick to speak for those with no voice and to follow up on hard cases. I can personally attest to two instances where her presence and skillful knowledge made all the difference, both to myself and to a patient.
I was working as a nurse and was assigned a trauma room along with my other room assignments. That morning I had a patient come to my room with a gun shot injury to the head, an injury that I had never cared for before in my nursing career. Crystal's leadership was undeniable. Everyone in my trauma room worked exceptionally well as a team and I was beyond proud of the skills we offered the patient and patient's family, but Crystal's presence was monumental. I will be eternally grateful that Crystal came into my room to assist. Her ability to think critically in an emotionally charged environment was evident in her drug suggestions made to the doctor and her assessment and reassessment of the patient. She truly was every bit of an exceptional nurse.
I found myself in the ER as a patient. I had recently had a tonsillectomy and my surgical site hemorrhaged requiring me to go to the ER. I found myself in a terrifying situation. Being a nurse, I knew the severity of my situation. I was losing a lot of blood, I was anxious, and my vital signs were beginning to reflect my condition. The moment Crystal walked into the room I knew I would be okay. She provided me with exceptional quality care. She promptly established an IV and assisted in my care until the moment I was loaded into an ambulance to go to PPMH for emergent surgery.
In both previously mentioned stories, Crystal made all the difference in the world to the care of the patients. The truly inspiring thing about the above mentioned stories is that for every testimony mentioned, there are countless other times where Crystal has assisted and provided quality care to a patient. She certainly personifies the Phoebe mission statement of providing compassionate and quality care to every patient that steps into our facility. Crystal is a true DAISY Nurse.
