Czar handled the stress well and through a calm, kind, and reassuring manner, he supported our patients and his colleagues.
We received multiple letters describing Czar’s compassion from patients’ families and verbal attestations of his skills and quality of care from his colleagues. Here are just a few declarations of Czar’s caring nature and nursing care.
Our Infection Preventionist provided us an account of her interactions with and observations of Czar. She described him as source of strength during the COVID pandemic. He communicated with care and compassion whether he was talking to a patient, a coworker, or a physician. Czar always seemed to manage a smile even on the most difficult days which lifted the spirits of those around him. Czar is an exceptional nurse and a role model on how to be a presence of love and light in the world.
Also, our Critical Care Nursing Director stated that, “Czar is an ED nurse that willingly crossed trained to the ICU so he could jump in and help with patient care and support some break and lunch coverage for our nurses in the ICU. He helped with the physical movement of critically ill patients positioning them on their stomachs or prone position to assist in their oxygenation and optimize their chance for survival. This was often a very difficult and scary for patients and staff. Czar handled the stress well and through a calm, kind, and reassuring manner, he supported our patients and his colleagues.”
Lastly, I would like to share with you excerpts from ICARE cards submitted by the family members of two separate patients and these letters provide the reason why Czar is receiving the DAISY Award today:
“Dear Czar, we want to express our gratitude to you and the whole staff at Los Alamitos Medical Center. Our father died in your emergency department. Your compassion and kindness was not wasted on us. Our last moments with our father were beautiful because of you. You are a true angel.”
“Dear Czar Palma, I wanted to extend my family’s thanks of gratitude to you. We brought our father in a few weeks ago and we knew he was very sick. The care you provided him was so special; you were caring, empathetic, calm, and reassuring. Unfortunately, our father did not survive. It was a busy night in the Emergency Room, but we felt like were the only ones here. We feel so fortunate that you were his nurse. You made a very painful evening comforting, knowing everything had been done for my dad and for giving us the family time we wanted and needed to say goodbye. God bless you.”
Join us in congratulating Czar, a kind, caring, and compassionate nurse and true patient advocate.
