Dana always takes a personal interest in her patients and families. She truly goes above and beyond in providing exceptional care! A most recent example of this is the case of a bedridden patient who had been hospitalized for weeks. She came in on her day off and personally transported the patient downstairs to the Kate Jeter Garden. The patient had not been out of the room for weeks and needed a change of scenery and fresh air. Dana, along with co-workers, took the patient outside to brighten their day. This gesture was clearly above and beyond the usual, routine nursing care. The exceptional part is the fact that she came in on her own time. Dana is always very positive about her patients and tries to "find the good in everyone". Colquitt Regional is very blessed to have such an outstanding, compassionate person to provide care!

Dana, without a doubt, goes above the call of duty. My sister has been in your hospital for over two months either in ICU or 4th floor and Dana has been with us all the way. Dana would go home and check her computer and come back and solve the problem. For instance, we were having severe stomach pains with vicious diarrhea. Scans after scans were done, blood work was done and everything came up negative. Dana figured out she was lactose intolerant. We took her off milk and the problem was solved. My sister is totally immobile and had not been outside in quite a while. Dana came in on her day off and got her up in a wheelchair, took her outside so she could smell some fresh air and see her sister who has cancer and had not seen in 6 months. This did both of them so much good. Dana has truly been a blessing to my family. These are just two of the things she has done on her own time. There are many more in the two and half months we have been in your hospital. She is a true asset to this hospital.

Dana is so deserving of this DAISY Award as she displays true compassion and understanding of patients' needs while including the family in the call. Dana was the first nurse to initiate physical therapy and followed thru to make sure that she continued to receive it. Dana even followed up and checked on her once she left her care. In the busy world of healthcare, Dana remembered what matters most, the patient.
