I had a full hip replacement. Devon was my overnight RN one evening. That night, I experienced sudden, severe chest pain and shortness of breath. I called Devon and he immediately arrived and began checking my vitals. I believe he called a "Rapid Response" because almost immediately members of CCU were present along with other RNs, techs and the crash cart. Monitoring and various tests were immediately performed. Devon maintained a sense of calm, managing all of the simultaneous actions and keeping me informed of what was happening. Obviously, I was frightened of either a cardiac event or blood clot, but Devon continued to reassure me and comfort me. He escorted me to the CT Lab early that morning, stayed with me the entire time and took me back to the Ortho Floor. He kept me informed of the lab results as they were received.
I have over 40 years in the Human Resources field and have identified and developed many "high potential" employees. Devon clearly has abilities beyond his strong clinical skills and I encourage him and St. Mary's to continue his education and allow him to "stretch" his abilities into more challenging positions. He is an asset to St. Mary's and should continue to be challenged.
Thank you, Devon, for your outstanding clinical, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
