She held her hand and let her take her time. That’s when I knew Mom was safe.
As a nurse, I’ve been in healthcare almost 8 years, always taking care of someone else’s family member but never my own. The amount of anxiety leaving my mother-in-law in a hospital knowing the nurse-to-patient ratios and what nurses go through was huge coming into this. It’s been my job to choose the right surgeon, do all the things I’d been trained for, and now I had to give my responsibility to someone else. Diondra, from the moment I met her today, put my heart at ease. She took time with my mom to find out if her nausea was because she was afraid of the pain of getting up. She held her hand and let her take her time. That’s when I knew Mom was safe. I could go to work and take care of my patients because she exemplified and talked of being a nurse who loved her patients like she would want her family loved. It’s a relief knowing I can be daughter-in-law here. Thanks so much, Diondra for being exactly the nurse we needed. BTW, you’ve even passed the “Mom” test. I know you’ve been in and out taking care of her all day and she can’t say anything but what a sweetheart you are. If you knew Mom healthy, you’d know what a compliment that is. Thanks for being the best!
