I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary crew that had an eventful busy ER department, filled with multiple critical care patients. To start off the night shift, there were 2 intubated patients admitted to ICU and were holding in ER, and 1 critical care pediatric patient on an Epinephrine drip waiting to be transferred to Kaiser Sunset PICU. Within 4 hours from start time, there were 3 CODE STROKES, 2 Sepsis Alerts, an EPRP transfer patient needing an Emergent Thrombectomy needing Interventional Radiology, and 1 patient having 3 CODES all together (CODE STROKE, CODE BLUE, and then CODE STEMI). The patient presented in triage as a "triage neuro" and was immediately placed into a room where she soon advanced to a CODE STROKE. Within minutes the CODE STROKE patient deteriorated to a pulseless cardiac arrest and a CODE BLUE was called. The Code Team rushed into action and followed the CODE BLUE algorithm protocol giving high-quality compressions and defibrillation twice until we had a viable rhythm. The patient was immediately admitted to INTENSIVE CARE, and then had changes in her EKG. The repeat EKG showed an S-T Elevated Myocardial Infarction which prompted for an immediate CODE STEMI transfer to Cath Lab. Emergency 911 was activated and the paramedics arrived within 20 minutes of being called but couldn't transfer the patient to Cath Lab due to the patient being on an Amiodarone drip. Our January employee of the month Brett "the jet" Reyes volunteered to accompany the patient, who was then safely transferred to a STEMI receiving center. Words cannot describe the Emergency Team's unselfish efforts and actions. Nurses like Mohamed "the flu Sultan" Hussin and Robyn Gravius unselfishly came out of their break time to help the busy critical care events happening. Everyone went above and beyond their call of duty with the common goal to work collaboratively together to ensure every patient was given the best care possible in an efficient manner. The team truly showed EXEMPLARY... TEAMWORK, CRITICAL THINKING, and UNITY... the UTMOST of its kind. I would like to recognize this team for their EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE!!
