Elizabeth exemplifies nursing excellence in many ways. She strives to be the very best nurse with patients and families, but she also attempts to achieve excellence through continued education and re-presentation as a nurse on committees and councils at St Jude. One of the many examples of her excellence as a nurse to patients and families was when she stayed over past her shift two hours due to increased patient acuities and less than optimal staffing. During this occasion, she gave meds, charted and assisted with a terminal patient. She wanted the patient to have the very best care possible and she was aware that staffing at shift change would not allow this. She took it upon herself to assist during this scenario. Both the patient and the family were grateful for her presence and assistance.
Elizabeth's representation on continued education, councils, and committees are too numerous to mention. She was an EBP Fellow for the 2015-16 class. The work from her Fellowship on the FARF scale has been implemented house wide and the results were shared at last year's APHON conference. She then stayed on with the EBP fellowship program to serve as a mentor for the 2016-17class. She was instrumental in helping with my EBP Restorative Rest Pilot for the night shift nurses. She was a cheerleader, teacher, advisor and worked long hours to help me get my project off the ground. She serves on the Solid Tumor Unit Council, the Evidence-Based Council, and is active in both the Solid Tumor journal club and Protocol Working group. For the past two years, she has spearheaded the Solid Tumor Annual charity drives and the results from her work have been outstanding. She is always ready and willing to step up for additional work when it will result in better results for our patients and families as well as for her co-workers.
It has been a privilege to work alongside such a dedicated, caring and marvelous nurse. I am hopeful that many of her assets and qualities will be recognized and adopted by others.
