I gave birth via C-Section 37 hours after being admitted to the hospital. My induction was long, painful and after many hours of trying to give birth naturally, my baby girl was stuck! The complications of labor resulted in my daughter being admitted to NICU. Recovery was hard and I was emotional and exhausted. I was well taken care of. One nurse went above and beyond the call of duty and I needed to make sure the right people heard about it.
Elizabeth Oyler was my day nurse the last 2 days and she completed my discharge from the hospital. What made Elizabeth so special was that when I left the hospital I felt like I was leaving behind a friend. I was sad to leave Elizabeth. During my time with her she was the one post-partum nurse that really took the time to get to know me. We talked about my daughter and my family. She shared with me a bit about herself and her life. I didn't feel like a patient under her care as much as a friend; she came to visit every hour. When I was discharged, we sat and talked while my husband got our truck, and after helping us load up she gave me a big hug and wished me well.
It may not seem like much but it was everything that I needed that on that day. I needed a friend to give me a hug as I was on the verge of tears at leaving my daughter behind. Leaving the hospital while my daughter was still in NICU was one of the hardest things I have ever had to face. Although Elizabeth may not have done anything most people would consider exemplary, the way she made me feel was more than I could ever have asked for.
Elizabeth deserves to be recognized for being such a phenomenal nurse. She made my care her priority and made me feel incredibly special.
