Emie was able to remain calm, caring, and compassionate
Emie Lou Cruz had a patient who was from a nursing home and who had been unable to come off the ventilator. The family was very adamant about not prolonging treatment in accordance with what they knew the patient would want if he was able to make that decision for himself. Emie coordinated efforts with the resident and neurologist to discuss the patient's plan of care and prognosis. Emie was able to remain calm, caring, and compassionate in assisting the family, but also firm and advocated for the patient in discussing the patient and family need for updates and treatment options. Emie was able to remain persistent in reaching the attending physician and the neurologist. Her persistence help advocate for the patient to be placed on comfort measures and provide the family with the answers they needed.
