Emily is a nurse who exemplifies what it means to work with compassion, professionalism, and exhibits the Mercy spirit by her works, words, and daily walk when she leads our department. There have been many situations in our unit that she has persevered and risen above many obstacles in difficult situations and is always encouraging her peers.
Specifically, a situation where an expectant mother came in who had some very serious complications that needed attention. Emily stayed with this patient and young daughter that was with her and was a liaison of communication with the patient. Emily explained what was going on. Despite being a charge nurse that day, along with helping out with numerous deliveries, she continued to work with this patient and her family keeping them informed and ensuring her anxious family that this patient would be taken care of.
Weeks later the patient's family expressed their gratitude and said Emily was a true rockstar nurse. This is just one of many situations you will see Emily reaching out on a personal level in connecting with the patient; not only contributing to their physical healing but mental healing also. It wouldn't be uncommon to see her "babysitting" someone's infant so that the parent is able to rest and recuperate for just a little while. Emily goes above and beyond every day that she is here, and always is positive to be around in day to day operations and rises to the occasion in difficult situations.
