I just wanted to thank and recognize the amazing staff that took care of me and my baby when I was hospitalized for his birth. I have been an RN for 11 years and know when I see staff who are truly competent and truly care. This was my second birth at West Bloomfield, and the team was amazing the first time, and even better with my now second baby. I never got around to sending a letter the first time and didn't want to make the same mistake the second time, and miss recognizing some specific individuals. It showed, that these individuals truly love and are passionate about what they do.
Our night nurse Emily, whom we had care for us all 3 nights we were there, is a true DAISY Nurse. She took so much time with us. She would always take the time for us for whatever we needed and never, never appeared rushed and never rushed us, even though the unit was full and busy every day of our admission. She was always there when we called and was extremely attentive.
As I said, I am a nurse, but L&D and peds are not my areas of nursing, and she taught me many things I didn't know especially surrounding the fact that my son was having problems regulating his glucose due to his large size. She did extra glucose checks on him when I asked, to ease my mind and took him for a few hours for us and snuggled him, so we could get some much-needed rest. I knew and felt comfortable with her taking him knowing she would be safe with her watching over him. She also worked with us trying some different tactics to try and get his glucose up without the use of formula, as I exclusively breastfeed and he kept spitting up the formula and helped us keep him out of having to go to the special care nursery for an IV drip.
This nurse is truly compassionate and loves what she does. You can tell this by her demeanor, by the way she talks to patients and the way she speaks of the profession. She is definitely one of those 1 in a million type of nurses. We will never forget her and her kindness, patience, and understanding during a happy, but somewhat scary time with my son's low glucose levels. She made me feel like everything was going to be okay and that things would turn around for him and she was right, it did. Thank you!
