We would have been lost without Emily.
Emily embodies the mission of Mercy West Hospital. While she does have her role as the Orthopedic Navigator, she does so much more and does it consistently! At any given moment on our unit, she is helping to set up rooms, passing meds, discharging patients, admitting non-ortho patients, and the list goes on and on. Not only is she helping every single employee on the floor, but patients as well. She continually has a kind word and performs her duties with joy. This is seen by all staff and patients here. We have never seen her complain or grumble about a task or new obligation. At no time is the floor not aware that she is present. She makes herself available to all staff, always.
Emily’s patients that she interacts with are always happy to meet her and her patient care is unmatched. For just one example, this last Tuesday our unit was faced with being the only floor that could accept ED holds and ED admits. She jumped in and started helping immediately without being asked. She was taking care of ED admits, Ortho discharges, passing meds, and an endless list of assistance to everyone on the floor. She did all this while never once complaining or stopping all day. She approached every team member to assist wherever she could to help. When she wasn’t assisting with patient care, she made sure that everyone had lunch or at least made it to lunch. We would have been lost without her. This is just one example, but there are countless times she has done this sort of thing and more.
While this in no way adequately describes what Emily does while she’s here, we hope that we can shed some light and celebrate a little of what she means to us and her patients. Mercy West Hospital is truly a better place with her here. She makes us all want to be better nurses and people. “Thank you” is just too small to say to her, but until we can find the appropriate words, we all say thank you and are grateful to her from the bottom of our hearts.
