Our unit is typically one where "Bundles of Joy" are delivered every day. We get to provide care for mostly healthy mothers and be included in their special moments. This case was a little different.
Emily cared for a baby with a fetal congenital defect. This type of patient typically goes to the NICU, but this mother desired a plan of care as close to a normal delivery as possible. The Mother and Father had prepared a birth plan to reflect how they hoped their hospitalization would go. Emily met this family and instantly became dedicated to meeting every need she could. She saw this plan as their "life plan". She recognized the need to decrease any fears and anxiety that was possible in order for this family to bond while they had the chance.
The care she provided was all given with such care, compassion and dedication. She not only was able to help this family, but also inspired the rest of her coworkers. Emily was a blessing to everyone.
