She worked with the management team to develop, trial, and implement the Brave Box, to improve the experience of our littlest patients.
Emily is an extremely positive and engaged nurse in our hospital. She is a strong advocate for her patients and her peers, ensuring that we are upholding our surgical and patient safety standards.
Emily was the mastermind behind the Brave Box initiative in peri-operative services. Emily noted that we were lacking a patient experience for children who come into surgery. She worked with the management team to develop, trial, and implement the Brave Box, to improve the experience of our littlest patients. The idea is to acknowledge and support these patients as they come into the operating room, and give encouragement, support, and a small toy to keep with them as they recover. This initiative has gained great support over the past year, growing our Brave Boxes to Brave cabinets, expanding it to kids of all ages, and getting donations and funding from the Children's Miracle Network to sustain this program long into the future.
Emily demonstrated her surgical integrity daily, advocating for her patient's safety, ensuring that sterile integrity is maintained, policies and procedures are followed, and everyone in the surgical suite is maintaining standards.
Emily created the Brave Box initiative in peri-operative services. She recognizes that coming to the OR is less than ideal and it takes a lot of courage and being brave. We provide a thank you card signed by all those involved in their care, as well as a small toy to comfort and occupy them while they are recovering.
Emily is the president of PPC, a union rep for peri-operative services, and an active RN in our department, identifying areas where we can improve and independently working to break down barriers and improve care.
Emily regularly gives patient-centered care to her patients. She goes out of her way to build a relationship in a short amount of time, gain patients' trust, and treats everyone with dignity and respect.
Emily is building off of a patient experience she had with a family member at a different hospital in the country. Doing something special for the kids that come into the Operating Room is becoming a standard elsewhere. Emily worked with Infection Prevention and Patient Experience to align with evidence-based, best practices.
Emily pours herself into her career and patient care. Everything she does in her role is aimed at delivering exceptional patient care and being a positive ambassador for our department and hospital.
Emily has received a great deal of recognition within our own department about this initiative, but staff would like to see her recognized at the hospital level for this great idea and action.
