I was admitted to Rex Cardiac Unit and stayed for several days. It’s not likely that both your day shift and your night shift nurses are phenomenal individuals; however, I was fortunate to have both Emma VanDeCar as our night shift nurse. Emma was attentive to every detail of care. From explaining the medications, she administered to the temperature of my room! A quiet and gentle person with a kind heart. Emma showed compassion for her work which is a core quality for a true nursing professional!

My wife was at the hospital with me on her birthday. When Emma was made aware of this, she brought us ice cream so that we could celebrate! This kind gesture just let me know that Emma’s focus is not only on the physical well-being of her patient, but also their emotional well-being!

Although the day-to-day challenges of nursing can be frustrating and tiresome; Emma always showed a positive attitude.
