My 9 year old son was admitted to University of Chicago Medicine Comer's 5th floor for several days in May and then again for several days in June. During his stay, my son had times of depression due to an NG tube he was required to have, pain he was experiencing and just the whole experience of being in the hospital. At one point during his first stay, Enrique was his nurse. Enrique knew exactly how to make my son happy. Enrique brought him a stethoscope, sat on his bed to talk to him and showed him how to use it. This made my son's eyes light up. Each time Enrique came into my son's room, Enrique would ask him about his stethoscope. He really knew how to treat my son and make him happy.

During my son's second stay at Comer, Enrique was not his nurse. At one point, we were walking my son around the fifth floor and as we went past the nurses' station, someone called out his name. We looked back and there was Enrique. Not only did he remember my son's name, but he came over and talked to him, asking why he was back. We talked for awhile and went on with our walk. When we got back to our room, there on my son's bed, was another stethoscope in a bag with the words, "From Enrique and floor 5" with a smiley face. It made my son's day, again!

Enrique went above and beyond to care for my son. There are hundreds of children that go through your hospital, many with more serious illnesses and for longer periods of time than our son. But that did not matter to Enrique. Not only did he remember our son's name, but he remembered that he liked the stethoscope and made him feel like he was the only patient on the floor. He took time to learn about my son and made his stay there pleasant. Enrique is awesome at his job and goes above and beyond the call of duty.
