Erica started the task of making masks after the CDC guidance came out that people should wear masks when not able to maintain a distance of 6ft. She spent her own money to buy cloth for the masks and set up shop at home as well as spending her days off in the ICU break room to take orders from people and provide cloth masks to employees around the hospital. This included housekeeping staff and clinic staff that were not part of the ICU. In addition, she has made masks for family members of Active Duty servicemen and women and she has also dedicated numerous hours outside of work to make masks for our deployed members as well. Erica has even gone as far as making and donating masks for the Hospice organization that helped her grandmother, postal staff, and church members in her hometown in Ohio.
Erica shows her care and compassion not just to her coworkers, but also to their families without complaint. It is during these times that such care and compassion are needed. Not only does she provide excellent patient care at work, but she is showing she cares with this gesture of making sure everyone is safe and protected by providing a necessary tool needed to help fight COVID-19. A little kindness goes a long way and Erica is changing the world one mask at a time.
