She has created an environment of trust, compassion, and mutual respect. Her open-door policy, and ability to stay connected with her team day or night, is part of what makes her so special.
Erica started working at Baptist as a floor nurse and then became an ANM before I started at Baptist. She was my ANM for several years before she became the nurse manager of my unit. Our entire team was very sad that our current manager at the time was leaving us, and there were definitely some big shoes to fill. Erica filled those shoes. She always puts her team before herself. She knows the struggles that we go through every day because she has been through it. Staffing has been terrible since COVID. It is not a surprise to see Erica drawing labs, answering call lights, talking to patients, and being present on our unit. Erica jumps in to help her team when she’s not rushed in between meetings and being pulled in a million different directions. Erica is our team’s greatest advocate. She isn’t afraid to fight back for us and be our voice when otherwise we wouldn’t have one. Our patient experience scores are a direct reflection of how well Erica cares for her team. She motivates us and gives us what we need to make sure our patients are receiving the best quality care. Working in healthcare is tough, but she makes the atmosphere on our unit so welcoming. She has created an environment of trust, compassion, and mutual respect. Her open-door policy, and ability to stay connected with her team day or night, is part of what makes her so special. Erica promotes the image of nursing at Baptist, within her community, and in the profession. Thank you, Erica, for all you do for our patients, families, and team members! You are a true DAISY Nurse Leader.
