I would like to nominate Erin Scheibe, for the DAISY Award for many reasons, but none more so than her strong humbling loyalty to service towards our fellow veterans. I am one of those veterans. I would like to share my humbling and embarrassing experience of going from being a homeless Vet to a more stable setting. As I’m still receiving medical care from the VA, nonetheless, from the early days of my Long Beach health care, Erin has been there helping me understand the system. She has been coaching me and guiding me through my journey here at the VA.

Not only that, but prior to coming here I was homeless, broke, and living out of my car, struggling with just peanut butter and sugar snacks, just to eat something. When I finally got a little run-down hole in the wall, Erin helped me get food boxes, directed me to the local food pantry, and even assisted me in getting an EBT. Not only all this, but she and her team, assisted me with other expenditures, my broke self was experiencing; lack of clothing so they contributed some clothing cards, toiletries, and even a few gas cards to help me get to and through the vast major of my rehabilitation process. Erin has been there by my side, not only in assisting me with all the systems and processes, but (above and beyond) what I expected from anyone assisting me.

Even prior to now, my memory and speech had a more pronounced impediment, that I was extremely self-conscious of, even more so than now. Erin had me feeling at ease through this process, as I practiced my vocal speeches to build better annunciation, Erin stir-helmed phone calls or connections I needed to make, in order for me to focus simply on my recovery. She has seriously left me in awe of her dedication and kind-hearted talents as a nurse. As I’m sure, her loyalty toward a veteran’s service is high on her priority list, I ask to nominate Erin Scheibe for the DAISY Award as a reminder of her true kindness and strong genuine heart that I felt blossom throughout her work environment.
