I never once felt that Ann did not have my care under complete control, which allowed me to truly rest and relax. Not to mention hearing her voice and seeing her face brought me so much joy!
I was in an awful motorcycle accident, many broken bones, and 10+ hours of surgery leaving me with many rods, plates, screws, and casts, leaving me totally incapacitated with a long road to recovery. After being transferred to Cal Rehab, I immediately felt safe, supported, and in extremely capable, good hands. As I lay here, writing this nomination with TWO broken wrists, including my writing hand which has plates and 12+ screws, I feel extremely compelled to share how incredible being cared for by "Ann" has been (pardon the handwriting!). Ann covered my night shifts for several weeks during my stay at Cal Rehab.

Under her care, I felt SO safe, secure, listened to, lifted up, and secure (twice)! She is not only funny and a joy to share stories with, but she also truly understood my care, pain management, and movement limitations. Ann carefully monitored (with multiple alarms) my pain medication, schedule and clearly communicated, repeated, and explained when necessary my regiment requirements. I never once felt that she did not have my care under complete control, which allowed me to truly rest and relax. Not to mention hearing her voice and seeing her face brought me so much joy!

Two things stood out in addition to her incredible support and care on an hourly basis. My mother has been by my side at UCLA and Cal Rehab since the day of my accident. The Cal Rehab team truly welcomed her as an overnight guest, which kept my mood high and greatly accelerated my recovery. Ann helped with me, but also made sure my mom was always comfortable and cared for as well. My mom had breast cancer and went through 29+ hours of surgery at UCLA and 4 years post-op and is still going through extensive therapy and unique cancer meds. Not only did Ann have experience with cancer treatments, but she also made sure that my mom had the proper hydration and food to go along with her cancer meds, at the right times, all on her own. She made us feel so happy and safe and cared for which meant so much to me as a patient.

Also, I was struggling with wetting the bed because of my extreme pain killers and deep sleep. Ann cleaned me up so quickly, helped manage my catheter with patience and ease. Ann is not only an incredible asset to Cal Rehab, but a Guardian Angel in real life.
