The staff voiced that if it was not for Frannie jumping in and directing the patient care they would have been lost.
Frannie Wood LPN is the pharmacy manager at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women. She has been a dedicated nurse to the patient population of FCCW. She goes above and beyond with helping the team in all areas and ensures that patient care is completed. For an example, in July 2024, Frannie was working her scheduled pharmacy shift on a Saturday. Typical weekend is to process the medication shipment for the day, file paperwork, work on orders, etc. It is a catch-up day for the pharmacy since the work is busy. There was a medical emergency called to the kitchen due to burn victims. Upon arrival, two patients were found to have been severely burnt by hot grease being thrown on them. Frannie immediately jumped in and provided care that was needed. During debriefing of the situation with staff, the staff voiced that if it was not for Frannie jumping in and directing the patient care they would have been lost. Correctional nursing takes care of patients that have burns for various reasons, but not to the extent of the incident. Staff were in shock and needed the guidance. Frannie was quick to act and was a vital leader during the incident.
Frannie had been assisting in the lab due to the position being vacant. She also will assist in the lab when there is a hard stick that the lab tech cannot get. Frannie is helping with training nursing staff in the lab area to process the labs along with techniques to draw labs. Frannie also works with all of the providers and nursing staff with Sapphire medication ordering and management of all the medications. She works beside the providers to ensure medications are renewed in adequate time so patient care is not delayed. Frannie is a valuable team member of FCCW and I am proud to say that I work beside a knowledgeable, committed, experienced Nurse that cares about the patients of FCCW.
