Haley received permission from the patient to take his car key and bring him his backpack with his computer and phone from his car. Haley did this after getting off work.
Haley admitted a patient to the ICU who had a heart attack. He was brought it to the ER by ambulance. The patient is homeless, living out of his car, and has no family in the area. When he began having trouble, he was in the McDonald's parking lot, and he went in and asked for help. The patient was very distressed about his personal belongings and his car being towed because he had no one to help him. Haley received permission from the patient to take his car key and bring him his backpack with his computer and phone from his car. Haley did this after getting off work. She went to McDonald's, where the patient's car was parked, retrieved his personal belongings, locked his car, and spoke with management at McDonald's. The manager at Mcdonald's told Haley the car would be safe, and they would not call to have it towed while the patient was in the hospital. Haley then returned to the ICU and delivered the patient's belongings to the night shift charge nurse to give to the patient. The patient was extremely grateful for Haley's kindness and compassion and her willingness to help him out during a stressful health-related situation.
