Helen Osborn is a night shift nurse. On this particular night, she was assigned a gentleman who was admitted with chest pain. He had an uneventful admission thus far, no chest pain, asymptomatic and comfortable. He was asleep at the time of the incident and on telemetry. Telemetry tech called to report a possible STEMI. Helen went to check on the patient and despite the patient being asleep, she called the Code STEMI. It was determined that the patient definitely was a STEMI and intervention could be carried out quickly. The cardiologist shared with the house supervisor later that morning that if the STEMI was not called, the patient would have had a detrimental outcome. He credited the nurse for action despite the patient being asymptomatic for the lifesaving measures that occurred.
