On this particular day, Idalis was caring for a patient who was demonstrating behavioral issues with an unknown cause. The patient needed an MRI for a definite diagnosis, and we were unable to get him calm enough to have this completed. She organized a care conference with the doctor and the family to talk about a plan and continued to teach and support the family as the shift progressed. Later in the shift the patient needed to have a Lumbar Puncture, the next statement is from the Neurologist that performed this test, related to Idalis' performance:
"I was consulted on a patient in 3 west for AMS. This was a very difficult patient from a nursing standpoint, agitated, altered, and combative. I requested the Idalis to help with gathering the supplies for bedside lumbar puncture and assist in holding the patient's position while I performed the procedure. The sole reason I was able to get the CSF sample is sheer dedication and professionalism of RN Idalis.
She was very efficient in gathering the required supplies, which had to be fished from all over the hospital, in a timely manner. She kept the patient calm, helped position him multiple times and was instrumental in ensuring the procedure got done safely and efficiently.
I am deeply impressed with the dedication, compassion, and professionalism that the nursing staff at Bayhealth have and Idalis is an excellent example of that."
