When my elderly father had to have major surgery, not only myself but my entire family was scared for him. Lauri Lemoine and Sherena Joseph were 2 of the nurses who have stood out to help make his stay as comfortable as possible. He was originally scheduled to be there for only one night, but it turned into five days.
Lauri and Sherena both took that extra step with him and the family to make sure that he was ok and explained everything to us. During the day, Lauri made sure to check on him as often as possible by helping him to get out of bed and move to help speed up his healing; then, in the evening, Sherena would do the same exact things. A lot of times when I could not get him to try and move on his own Sherena would come in and talk to him and before I knew it, she had him walking the halls.
On one particular day, Dad's oxygen levels were low (low to mid 80's) they quickly put him on oxygen. For days, he was on it, and on the last day there, when they checked his sats and they were in normal range, the excitement that these nurses showed filled my heart with love. You would have thought that it was their own father that was in the hospital. On our discharge day, it was bittersweet because my father and I have grown to care for these two Extraordinary Nurses. I know there are many hospitals that we could have chosen for his surgery but Lourdes, hands down, was the best choice for us.
