Israel triaged an established patient who had arrived at our clinic today for her appointment with one of our psychiatrists. While Israel was triaging the patient, she began crying and shared that she was going through a rough patch because her house had burned down due to an electrical fire a few weeks ago. She had also shared that she lost all of her belongings, including her favorite Christmas tree, and is experiencing significant financial strain. Her husband was hospitalized for several days, and they are now living at a hotel. Israel had a small countertop Christmas tree in his office. He didn't want her to go through the holiday without having a Christmas tree. While the patient was in her appointment with the psychiatrist, Israel began boxing up his small tree and ornaments. As the patient was leaving the clinic, he gifted his tree to her. She was overcome with thankfulness for his small act of kindness.
