Patient wrote a nomination, in Spanish, his praise and appreciation of Jasmin Rodriguez. The patient, newly diagnosed with a life threatening blood cancer, was hospitalized for several weeks leading to a few months. Jasmin, caring for Mr. B, spoke to him in Spanish at all times. Mr. B was feeling lonely, bored and worried about his future. The long days in isolation, with language limitations made the hospitalization even worse for Mr. B during aggressive chemotherapy. Jasmin spent time with her patient. She listened. Jasmin had a strong understanding of Mr. B's needs.
Jasmin, while driving home from work after a difficult 12 hour shift, stopped at the local book store. Using her own money, she purchased several books, written in Spanish, which matched the interests that Mr. B had talked about. Jasmin's simple, kind gesture made all the positive difference for Mr. B as he slowing regained his strength.
