While her role was as a lactation consultant, she really did the role of a NICU nurse. She went well above her job this day.
Jeannene continues to be a resource for staff and families in every unit of maternal-child health. She has in many situations examined an infant at the breast and realized the infant was not well, alerting staff to problems early. She has identified seizures and sepsis. Jeannene also took on the role of a NICU nurse for an infant in hospice care. The infant required additional feeding support while the infant was not in NICU due to comfort who wasn’t even breastfeeding. The level of nursing support and clinical assessment to care for this infant was tremendous. While her role was as a lactation consultant, she really did the role of a NICU nurse. She went well above her job this day. She allowed me as the physician to make the best plan for the infant. If Jeannene had not taken over this role in the room, we would maybe have had to escalate care which was against the parental wishes. I think Jeannene should be recognized in the highest fashion for the care she provided for this family and for the medical team.
