Jenny took extra steps to ensure that I was comfortable and comforted me that my pain would subside and it did.
RN Culbertson went above and beyond her duty by listening to me and the pain I was experiencing as a result of my hiatal hernia surgery. She was there at my bedside when I woke up after surgery and took the steps to ensure I was comfortable and without pain. Later the next morning because of the air that was pumped into my body to enhance my organs for the robotic surgery, I was in a lot of pain. She told me that I should walk up and down the hall to relieve the air. On her advice, I walked the halls from 3 AM to 6:45 AM and felt much better. She knew what she was talking about. Also, when I woke up I had chest pain and asked her what was going on. She calmly told me that the robot punctured my lung and that I had to get my oxygen level up and demonstrated how to do this with the mechanical device. She took extra steps to ensure that I was comfortable and comforted me that my pain would subside and it did. I asked her to be with me when the care doctors visited me so she would ensure that I get answers to my questions regarding recovery and meds to counter the constipation from the oxycodone. She did and ensured the doctors answered my concerns and that I understood their answers. This was very important to me since I was recovering from surgery and still had the effects of anesthesia. She even addressed my concerns in the discharge papers so I would not forget. She is truly an angel who took care of me while I was in the Charleston VA Hospital recovering from surgery. Truly blessed to have her and the other healthcare workers at the VA.
