Jeri did this from her own pocket and did not want any recognition.
We had an elderly patient on our unit recovering from a repair from a hip fracture she had sustained in a fall at home. She had dementia and was refusing to eat or take her medicine. The patient stated she wanted a hashbrown and coffee from McDonalds, or she was not doing anything. Attempts were made to get her to take coffee from our pantry, but she wouldn’t budge; she took one drink and said, “That’s not McDonald's coffee.” Jeri McCuiston ordered McDonald's and had it door dashed to the unit. The patient ate 100% of the meal and took her medicine. No, McDonalds was not the best diet choice for her, but as a nurse, you often find that you must think outside the box and look at the big picture. The patient needed protein and calories. Jeri did this from her own pocket and did not want any recognition. This just goes to show you the true heart our nurses have for their patients.
