Jessica was getting an 80 year old man ready for emergency surgery. He and his daughter were very anxious. The patient did not speak English and had never been in the hospital before. Jessica made sure the daughter was well informed on the type of surgery her dad was having, so the daughter could inform her dad. The daughter was exhausted and had not had any sleep or anything to eat.
Jessica knew the patient would be admitted so she went ahead and got the order for a room from the doctor so the daughter could go to the room and rest while her dad was in surgery. She also got her a frozen dinner heated up to eat.
Jessica also recovered the patient after surgery when he woke up, he was very anxious. Due to the language barrier, Jessica had the patient’s daughter come to the recovery room to console her dad. Both the patient and the daughter had really relied on Jessica to pull them through such a difficult time. Jessica not only put her patient’s needs first but also his caregiver’s needs.
Jessica is one of the most positive, compassionate nurses I know and deserves to be recognized!
