My Mother was a patient in the ICU; her nurse during the daytime was Jess. At a very stressful and emotional time for my family, Jess was clearly knowledgeable and qualified with regard to my Mother's condition and treatment, while at the same time sensitive to our feelings. She was able to clearly explain my Mother's complex medical. I know she had other patients to take care of, but we always felt like we were a priority.
Most important to us, Jess spoke to my Mother respectfully, even though we assume Mom was not conscious. She brushed Mom's hair at one point so she'd look nice, and that's important to my Mother. At the end of her shift, she spent a fair amount of time making sure the transition to the next nurse went well.
It was apparent to me and my brother and sisters that Jess is an outstanding nurse and she should be recognized and encouraged to continue to do a difficult job extremely well.
