Dr. Valde seeks out opportunities for growth as a Nurse Educator. She is a FLAG Fellow, which included completing a one week comprehensive training on geriatric education followed by a one year mentored experience. During this time she integrated QSEN competencies into her gerontological nursing practicum, reinforcing the AACN Baccalaureate Essentials and the College of Nursing Program Outcomes. This year she will be completing the NLN ACES workshop on Teaching Care of Older Adults. In addition to her teaching Jill devotes time to a variety of service initiatives. Jill coordinates the Diabetes Busters program to engage student and peer volunteers to teach third grade elementary students about Diabetes and the importance of a healthy diet and exercise. She also participates on the board for Systems Unlimited and the National American Diabetes Association. Dr. Valde is extremely invested in each of her students and she is always available to work with her students to help them achieve their own goals. She has inspired many in the nursing field to become more actively involved beyond the standard expectations.
