I was sick, scared and depressed after my surgery. Immediately upon my arrival to the 6A my family and I were introduced to the staff. Every detail about my plan of care was explained to us and we were given a complete orientation to the room. This put me and my family at ease that we were treated very well.
But my stay; believe it or not, got even better! June Parkes, RN introduced herself as my nurse each day as if it was the first time she met me. She was always warm and compassionate. Most of all she is a great teacher and very patient. She made sure I understood every procedure before she performed the procedure. She answered my family’s questions with great knowledge. June made me feel like royalty. The funny thing about it, my roommate said she made them feel the same way.
Upon meeting June my spouse finally felt he could go home after 3 days and get some sleep. I believe all healthcare workers can learn from June on how to be compassionate and caring. As I walked down the hallway I saw a male patient point to June and say, “she’s the greatest!” I smiled and told him I agree.
