I am a nursing student who has done 2 semesters of clinicals at OSF. I have come across many wonderful nurses during my time here, but no one has ever touched my heart like Jureatha (Jay). I followed her for a night in the ICU and was blown away by the care she gave her patients as well as other patients. Though most of the patients were intubated, she still spoke to them and explained the care she was giving. She was so kind to everyone. At one point, there was a critical patient who required the attention of all the other nurses and Jureath took on the role of caring for the other nurses' patients while they were preoccupied. She showed those patients the same kindness and respect she showed her patients, even when they were confused and at times combative. I can tell that Jureatha has a good heart inside and out and I believe she deserves recognition for that. She is someone who confirmed why I want to be a nurse. I hope I can be as good of a nurse as her someday.
