SPC Simms is one of the most hardworking, caring, and intentional nurses I have ever had the privilege of working with. I have never worked a shift with her where SPC Simms wasn't smiling and bringing the spirits of the floor to an all-time high. In addition to keeping spirits high, her clinical competency and patient advocacy are unequivocal. She takes time to do "the little things" for her patients every day, even when she is extremely busy, and that makes all the difference. I will round on patients and notice SPC Simms talking with them about their families, allowing them to speak through their fears and questions and SPC Simms is never too busy to listen. She advocates for her patients each and every shift. To speak to a specific event, there was a patient who had a new onset of clinical changes that required immediate attention. Through her keen assessment and intentional nursing care, SPC Simms recognized that the patient was declining and immediately notified the physicians. SPC Simms stayed with the patient the entire time, comforting both her and her husband. She stayed calm and stayed persistent in her nursing judgment that something was not right. During the stressful situation, the patient was extremely anxious and SPC Simms gave her a picture of her dog to hold close as she also provided verbal support. She was able to multitask and critically think under pressure. SPC Simms is constantly seeking out feedback on how she can improve and perform better for her patient's sake. It is an honor to work with SPC Simms. If any of my family were ever hospitalized, I could only hope a nurse as caring, smart, and driven as SPC Simms would care for them too.
