There was a delivery that was anticipated would be difficult. Prior to this day, an Interdisciplinary team had a meeting with the family to develop a plan for the day of delivery. The nurse who was going to be assigned that day was not in on the prior discussion, however, had been briefed on the parents' wants and wishes. At the time of the surgery, Karin did the most beautiful time out I have ever heard. She started out by saying "We are here to celebrate the birth of Baby X." She went on to give the pertinent points of this time out without mentioning the viability of the baby (which we already knew). In the end, Karin said, "Let's welcome this Baby." I was very touched and blessed to be a part of this wonderful moment. She did it with compassion and empathy which changed the dynamic of the day.
