We came to Henry Ford Hospital expecting my husband to receive a kidney transplant from his sister. Upon getting prepared for surgery, the doctors discovered my husband had pneumonia and the surgery was canceled. He was admitted to the hospital where he tested positive for the flu. They sent him to have a dialysis treatment and upon returning, I discovered he was having trouble breathing.
He was then transferred to the MICU where we met Katelyn. It had been such a long and emotional day. She cared for us like family. Her concern for my husband was her top priority. My husband had to be intubated and Katelyn made sure we understood exactly what was going to happen. At one point, she asked the resident a question about the care for my husband. I felt Katelyn wanted to make sure the best decisions were being made because she immediately made a call ensuring my husband's care was being handled accurately. I knew right then that Katelyn was on top of her job in caring for my husband. I trusted her decisions. During the night, the computer system went down. My husband needed medication, and Katelyn worked hard making sure he got what he needed in a timely manner. I believe their actions saved my husband and led him to a quick recovery.
Blessed to have this nurse care for him two nights in a row.
