I honestly believe that the only reason I was able to maintain my composure and sanity during this time, was due to Katerina.
My outgoing, active, talented, husband was admitted to step down, unable to speak or control his body, with a still undiagnosed illness. We were there for 9 days. The first 3 were traumatizing to me and my family. I honestly believe that the only reason I was able to maintain my composure and sanity during this time, was due to Katerina.
She was our day nurse over those 3 days and while the entire nursing staff deserves praise, she saved me. She is quite skilled at the mechanics of her job. She excelled, however, in her personal interactions. Her quiet strong demeanor helped me to focus on how best to help my husband. She insisted I care for myself and enabled me to do so by making extra time for him. She wrote out all information about what he was being tested for what medications were being used and why. She gave special time to my daughter and hugged her when it was needed.
With multiple doctors all running tests, in and out of the room, all with questions and no answers, she was able to be an interpreter for me. She started nursing a year ago during such a crazy and dark time and found resilience and determination within herself my whole family is in awe over. Do everything you can to see this young woman continues down this path. Our world needs people like her to continue to want to care for others.
