Katie is not only a huge asset to the nursing world, but specifically to Inova Alexandria. I have never met anyone as dedicated to the hospital, her unit and her patients as Katie. Katie's cheerful attitude, sunny personality and positive energy brighten the day of every person she meets! Katie is the chair of her Clinical Practice Committee, as well as an active member of the Strategic Initiative Nursing Group and The DAISY/Tulip Committee. Katie also actively volunteers around the hospital. For example, she was the captain of her team and raised funds for the American Heart Association Heart Walk, but also participated with March of Dimes! Katie is the Get Well Network team lead for service recovery, as well as an Epic Superuser and a Certified Medical Surgical Registered Nurse, so she is a fabulous resource for Inova Alexandria. She regularly participates in events around the hospital, such as volunteering to donate blood during the blood drive and volunteering her time off to create posters and displays for different events throughout the year.
Katie is always putting the patients first not only for her unit, but for other units as well. I can specifically recall a time when myself (the charge nurse) and the bedside nurse were having difficulty with an NG tube. We spent a significant amount of time in the patient's room trying to troubleshoot without any luck. I called Katie, and instead of just telling us what to do, she immediately said "I'll be right there!" and within minutes, she joined us at the bedside. No matter how busy she is or what she is doing, she is always ready to help. I am so fortunate to work with such a compassionate team player.
