Today I had the great privilege to witness Kathleen, supporting a patient's family member, in the aftermath of making some very difficult decisions for their loved one. We all get faced with difficult decisions in life, where we question whether we are doing the right thing...and Kathleen was able to demonstrate her empathy and compassion for this woman, expressing our sense of respect for her, as a daughter, in a very difficult situation. She eloquently explained that, in the realm of healthcare, there are not always right or wrong answers to the questions that life presents, "these decisions are never black or white-you just have to do what you feel in your heart is right, for your Mom and your family". I believe that, as a result of this interaction, that daughter was able to trust in her decisions, and that we, as a team, can now move forward in our plan of care, to provide exceptional care to this patient, while supporting those whose lives she has touched, throughout their hospital experience. It is moments like this, when I witness such beauty and grace from my fellow co-workers, that I am overcome with a huge sense of gratitude regarding the fact that I work here at St. David's Georgetown Hospital.
